We Lock Love illustrates the potential of NFT and communities. It is a one-of-a-kind project where tech and art are put together to tell stories, and to serve the most common good : Public heritage. And at the same time, the most personal one : Love…
Le Pont des Arts is a historic pedestrian bridge in Paris that spans the Seine River. The bridge is famous for the thousands of "lovelocks" that used to adorn its metal grills. These locks were placed by couples as a symbol of their eternal love for each other. However, due to the weight of the locks and concerns for the safety of the bridge, the city of Paris began to remove them in 2015. Today, the bridge remains a popular tourist destination and a romantic spot for couples to take a stroll and enjoy the views of the Seine.
In 2013, French artist Alexis Bourdillat embarked on an ambitious photography project to capture every individual lovelock on a bridge. In six months, he immortalized them all, celebrating the hidden beauty and mystery of thousands of anonymous love stories engraved and hooked on the bridge, as a collective testament he invites viewers to discover. As the outcome of a modern & urban archeological dig, they can find unexpected treasures of the people’s Memory.
The work resulted in 36 979 lovelocks that would survive forever, even after their removal in 2015.
"We Love Love" is a real use case of technology extending traditional art forms. Here, photos of each lovelock are the raw material, that are combined with data and processed by algorithm. Data refers to the precise localization of each lovelock on the bridge, indexed during shooting. As a result, a 3D-modeled reconstituted bridge offers an immersive experience, allowing visitors to explore it as it was before the lovelocks were removed, and to be able to read in high resolution the lost messages engraved.
The architectural units of the bridge are the DNA of the artwork modeling and have been essential in the creative approach of We Lock Love. They consist in the following :
The digital-to-physical aspect of "We Love Love" is crucial. Visitors experience an immersive walk through a virtual 3D model of the IRL bridge.
From the Artwork, a Collection: the precise reconstitution of the bridge using the lovelocks resulted in a unique NFT series, with each photograph representing a different part of the structure.
Each NFT represents a bundle of around 45 lovelocks, with 796 bundles in total. Collectors become Guardians of the bridge, holding the keys to its lovelocks and their stories.
Collectors can claim a unique high-resolution physical print of their bundle under acrylic glass, sized like a real panel. We Lock Love bridges digital and physical art, offering a cross-medium experience for the metaverse and home. ❤️🔒
The Historic Collection pushes NFTs beyond digital ownership, offering utility to engage art lovers, history enthusiasts, and culture aficionados. We Lock Love democratizes utilitarian art projects, uniting photography lovers, NFT collectors, Paris visitors, residents, and institutions. Soon, discover the staking and rewards system and the broader protocol.
Community contribution is vital to We Lock Love. The project aims to document and identify all lovelocks in its database. For example, "Bob & Julia from the UK" who honeymooned in Paris in 2006 can search for their lovelock by keywords. By typing "Bob," "Julia," and "2006," they can find and identify their lovelock among 40,000 images. Upon verification, they receive a unique NFT edition of their lovelock.
Community contribution is essential to building this database. This phase showcases the beauty and power of collaboration and co-creation. Everyone adds their own piece, supporting the Artist's vision.
A user-friendly, gamified experience makes contributing to the database fun and rewarding. Contributors unlock special NFTs based on their involvement in documenting 36,979 lovelocks by entering readable text and noting attributes (e.g., drawings, hearts, alphabets). Data quality is ensured through multiple validations. The ambitious goal of 500,000 entries can be achieved with broad participation.
Discover the simple steps to start contributing below:
At the Art3f fair in Paris, a US visitor found his 15-year-old lovelock in a mosaic after a 20-minute search. The contribution phase will soon let anyone find their lovelock in seconds without needing to remember the exact location. This allows thousands of lovers worldwide to retrieve a physical memento of their personal story within a giant artwork.
WeLockLove bridges past and future by immortalizing historic and future lovelocks in a dedicated marketplace in the metaverse. Digital lovelocks collections and 1/1 editions will soon be available as engravable NFTs, allowing lovers to share personal messages or simply leave their mark in an eternal, and timeless place.
Lovers can “lock their love” forever on the blockchain, by engraving amazing lovelocks created by curated digital artists.
The lovelock symbolizes love and romance worldwide. We Lock Love uses art and technology to turn digital lovelocks into lasting tokens of creation and emotion, just like their physical counterparts. Immortalized on the blockchain, they become a phygital extension of human feelings and stories, forever enduring. ❤️🔒
👉🏼 Nephel’s Dream returns to Lisbon with exciting events.
👉🏼 Digital-to-Physical (D2P) model combines digital and physical art.
👉🏼 Community engagement through various interactive experiences.
Combining virtual and real worlds is no longer science fiction. It's now a way to create new experiences with technology. This fusion enhances how people connect with and value art. Our digital-to-physical (D2P) model demonstrates how digital and physical dimensions can combine to create unique experiences. In this article, we explore Nephel’s Dream and highlight how its D2P dimensions make it a special Art project.
Nephel’s Dream is a visual and musical tale, a poetic story through sound and image created by an electronic music duo (dOP), a visual artist (Alexis Olin), in collaboration with Lezar. The project includes a musical album of 25 songs paired with a 25-part visual artwork.
Music inherently bridges digital and physical realms, being composed and performed live, then digitalized for distribution. Similarly, Nephel’s Dream exists as both unique digital artworks via blockchain and NFTs, and as physical 1:1 prints.
Nephel’s Dream embodies the fusion of digital and physical media, showcasing the complementarity between human hands and software. This project illustrates how both elements complete each other in the creative journey. The initial "Day-to-Night" version was created digitally in two color variations: "Day" and "Night," central themes in Nephel’s Dream.
This genesis work features the main characters and foundational elements, used by the artist to create a detailed Black & White version, split into 25 parts. The artwork was scanned in HD and vectorized to add more elements digitally. Alexis Olin combined various artistic skills to develop Nephel's unique universe and texture. The artwork moved from digital to physical, then back to digital, finally adding color with digital brushes to reach its final form.
The final artwork, rich in texture and elements, transitions back to digital with the use of digital tools, finishing in its colored state.
Nephel’s Dream offers a touring exhibition across Europe, both in real life and the metaverse, thanks to its 3D layer. These one-of-a-kind events propose an immersive experience, blending fantasy and reality, colors and darkness, festive and arty vibes , inviting peoples to interact with the artists and the artwork’s characters through live performances, to dream together for an evening or a night under the stars.
The Nephel’s Dream collection is released in series that mark key milestones in Alexis Olin’s creative process, showing its evolution. It offers collectors an innovative D2P acquisition experience.
The Day-to-Night pre-series includes 2 unique NFTs, DAY and NIGHT, representing the two initial colored versions of Nephel’s Dream. Each NFT comes with a physical artwork, a unique print under acrylic glass (50x50cm).
The Special editions series series proposes two 1/1 pieces : the intermediary version of the visual artwork in “Black & White” (original handmade drawing, 50x50cm) and the “Silver Black” printed negative version (100x100cm)
The Black & White main series consists of 25 parts, each a chapter of the final artwork in black & white, hand-drawn by Olin. Owners receive the final artwork in colors with the physical NFT print, unveiled piece by piece on the Nephel’s Dream website as the 25 NFTs are minted, revealing the complete artwork to the public upon sellout.
Nephel’s Dream NFT holders enjoy premium access to various dOP concerts and Art events across Europe, and can redeem physical items like vinyl records, collector’s edition booklets, 3D prints of characters, Nephel’s Dream characters figurines, and merch from the project universe.
Nephel’s Dream uses the web3 philosophy and the NFT model to engage a community in its ideas and ownership. The project is funded by its series and reinvests in new features and exhibitions.
For example, the community funded the production of Nephel’s Dream vinyl (300 editions), given to NFT holders or available for purchase.
As the project grows, the experience continues with real-life and metaverse events, exhibitions, and new features on the Nephel’s Dream website.
